A local farmer took the initiative to retire an area of existing native lowland wetland, creating an opportunity to restore and enhance the ecosystem. For the bush edges and riparian margins, pioneering species such as Kunzea robusta, Pittosporum tenuifolium, Veronica stricta, Coprosma robusta, Hoheriasextylosa, and Leptospermum scoparium were supplied.

In sheltered pockets, secondary species like Podocarpus totara, Knightiaexcelsa, and Sophora microphylla were introduced to promote ecological succession and long-term growth.

The wetland restoration included a variety of plants tailored to specific zones. For stream edges, Carex geminata and Carex virgata were selected, while the wetland system featured Machaerina articulata, Machaerina rubiginosa, Juncus pallidus, Carex secta, Coprosma tenuicaulis, Dacrycarpus dacrydioides, and Laurelia novae-zelandiae. Together, these species create a robust and thriving wetland environment.

Take the first step toward making a difference in our natural world—embrace wetland restoration today and help ensure a healthier, more sustainable future for generations to come.
